About me

The story so far

From fixing computers in Port Harcourt to leading a SOC team in Abuja, and now building my next chapter in Berlin.

Where it started

IT first, then security

My name is Jerry Nmerukini Brown, though everyone calls me Jerry. I grew up in Nigeria, studied Mathematics Education at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, and earned a Diploma in Applied Information Technology with Distinction before that.

My first real IT job was at KF Projects Online in Port Harcourt, from 2012 to 2016. I set up and fixed computers, networks and software, and handled the support tickets that keep a business running. It taught me the thing I still rely on: most problems get solved by staying calm and asking the right questions.

From there I moved into information security, and then into security operations.

Neo Cloud Technologies

Five years in the SOC

I joined Neo Cloud Technologies in Abuja in 2019 as Design Lead, and moved into the SOC in 2021. I started as an analyst and grew into leading the team: setting priorities for the shift, reviewing escalations and coaching newer analysts until they could handle cases on their own. On the training side, as Head Faculty, I managed a team of 17.

Then our CEO asked me to lead the security side of a single sign on project for a federal government agency. I studied the Nigeria Data Protection Act and turned it into requirements ten engineers and developers could build against. We went live in eight weeks.

That project changed how I see security. In the SOC you see what goes wrong. In that project I saw why it goes wrong: no clear owner, unclear rules, controls nobody checks. That’s what an information security management system fixes, and it’s why I’ve gone deep into ISO 27001 since.

The other half

A designer since 2013

Design has run alongside my technical work the whole time. I worked in house at Printrite NG, designing with senior executives and marketing teams across business divisions.

Today I’m Creative Lead at Bixy Koncept. I’m brand consultant to FTLG Network, a platform for foreign trained lawyers in Germany, and I’ve branded their Legal Lounge events in Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg. I also design and build websites and brand identities for businesses and NGOs.

Having both skills is useful in security. I can do the technical risk work, and I can also make the awareness material and reports that people actually read.

How I work

What to expect

I explain it plainly

I can take a technical risk and explain it so a developer, a manager and a lawyer each understand what it means for them. Years of training very different audiences taught me that.

I learn by doing

When I teach, I use labs and capture the flag challenges built around real work. When I learn something new, I build a lab and publish it.

I argue the case, not the person

I bring a short comparison of cost, risk and fit in writing, so decisions rest on facts and not on who is louder in the room.

I finish the job

I follow through until the evidence is there: a closed incident, an audit finding with an owner and a date, or a signed off design.

Right now

Currently

I moved to Germany in 2026 and live just outside Berlin. I’m studying ISO/IEC 27001:2022 in depth and publishing practice labs on GitHub, learning German every day, and still working with FTLG Network as their brand consultant.

I’m looking for roles in security operations, information security, IT support or design, anywhere in Germany, on site, hybrid or remote.
